Second day of school

Well, it's now the second day of school and Maggie is already taking a sick day. She came home from school on Tuesday, took her nap, and woke up with a fever. It turns out she has a highly contagious disease called Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease(probably picked up from the State Fair - most likely from one of those Carnies - small hands, smell like cabbage), which is not to be confused with Hoof and Mouth Disease - the rare and dangerous disease carried by cattle. Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease is a disease where you develop painful blisters in your mouth and sometimes on your hands and feet along with a fever. So far we have the fever and the sores in the mouth. They are so painful Maggie can't even eat anything. We have been able to get her to drink fluids which is good because a major side effect of this illness is dehydration due to intense pain while eating and drinking. We think Julia and Aidan may have had it last week because they were very fussy a couple days and Julia even had a brief fever. I'm hoping they did and that they won't get it now (you can't get it twice). The jury is still out on whether I will come down with it, but we got our answer this morning with Tim - 2 blisters in his mouth already. Oh, how I love strange childhood illnesses!

So my introduction to the school office occurred when I had to call and tell them that my daughter wouldn't be in today and, by the way, had probably exposed the entire T/Th AM preschool to a highly contagious disease. So much for the Birthday invites this year!!
